Chatbot and smart switchboard: cabinet launches a trial for council services

The multilingual tools will provide information without replacing council staff.

Follonica’s cabinet approved a policy direction to trial a chatbot on the council website and a voicebot on its switchboard, both multilingual. The pilot is intended to help residents find information and navigate services, while testing whether telephone waiting times can be reduced. Mayor Matteo Buoncristiani and innovation councillor Sandro Marrini describe it as a trial to be assessed before any permanent introduction. The statement specifies that the tools will provide information only and that people will still be able to contact staff directly. The technical department must identify a solution. The decision therefore starts the process; it does not announce an operational service.
