Florence committee backs measures to protect neighbourhood shops

Palazzo Vecchio discusses extending trading protections beyond the UNESCO centre.

Florence city council’s Committee 2 gave a favourable opinion on 30 October on a proposal to extend and renew measures protecting neighbourhood shops on certain streets outside the UNESCO-listed historic centre. Representatives of trade associations were heard at the meeting. The minutes record nine votes in favour, two against and two abstentions. This is a committee opinion and must be distinguished from any eventual completion of the formal approval process.
