Florence marks sixty years since the flood, linking remembrance and prevention
The council programme schedules an extraordinary meeting on 3 November and an institutional ceremony on 4 November.
Florence is marking sixty years since the 1966 flood with a programme bringing together public institutions, research and cultural initiatives. The municipal calendar, updated on 2 November, announces an extraordinary council meeting dedicated to the Mud Angels at 5.30pm on 3 November. An institutional ceremony attended by the President of the Republic is scheduled for 4 November.
The programme follows an agreement between the city, Region, University and Metropolitan City. Remembrance is linked to flood-risk prevention. These are scheduled events: the statement does not document newly completed flood-defence works.
