African swine fever: resources and prevention debated in council

Monni outlines the biosecurity funding call; Veneri seeks attention for areas without outbreaks too.

Management of African swine fever returned to the council through a question from Fratelli d’Italia. Regional minister Monia Monni stressed the need to focus resources on restricted areas and recalled a funding call launched in December 2025: more than €800,000, with contributions covering up to 80 per cent of eligible farm biosecurity expenditure. Gabriele Veneri sought greater attention to prevention in provinces he described as still without outbreaks, including Siena, Arezzo and Grosseto. This report records positions expressed during the sitting, rather than independently updating the areas’ disease status.
