Follonica completes beach replenishment with 5,000 cubic metres of sand
Work to reshape the town’s public beaches has concluded.
Beach reshaping works have finished on Follonica’s public coastline between piazza Guerrazzi and the Cervia watercourse. According to the council, around 5,000 cubic metres of natural sand from a river quarry were brought in. Work began in June, paused during the bathing season and resumed in October. The stated aim is to improve the beach profile and counter erosion. Coastal maintenance will remain a long-term issue, to be assessed in light of future storms as well.
