Regasification ship: council unanimously opposes an extension

The joint motion calls for talks with the Government and compensation for Follonica.

Follonica council unanimously approved a motion on the continued presence of the regasification vessel in Piombino harbour. Originating with opposition groups and subsequently amended jointly, the document commits the mayor and cabinet to conveying opposition to any extension beyond the authorised period to the Government, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Environment Ministry. It also calls for MPs to be pressed on compensation, extending it to Follonica if an extension is granted, and for prompt updates to the council. The vote expresses the Gulf town’s political position. It does not directly change the facility’s authorisation, which depends on the procedures and powers of the institutions concerned.
