Pienza: Le Mura wins Cacio al Fuso, bringing neighbourhoods and pecorino together
The 64th edition ends with a play-off against Casello and the efforts of volunteers.
Pienza’s Palio del Cacio al Fuso goes to the Le Mura contrada, which finished with 76 points after two extra rounds against Casello. The result appears in the council statement of 7 September, published by the Unione dei Comuni Valdichiana Senese. Alvaro Turchi was top scorer with 22 points; Casello took first place in the junior competition with 68. The pecorino festival relies on organisation by the Pro Loco, contributions from musicians and flag throwers, Spazio Giovani and the six contrade. The council highlights the work of dozens of volunteers and cooperation with local businesses. Mayor Manolo Garosi stresses the value of agricultural memory and traditional games. Alongside the competition in Piazza Pio II, this network shapes the institutional account of the 64th edition: a community heritage sustained by associations’ commitment and the area’s emblematic product.
