Gonfienti excavations renew debate on access to the Etruscan site
A regional visit takes in the area being studied by the University of Florence.
Excavations at Gonfienti, between Prato and Campi Bisenzio, have renewed attention to understanding and accessing archaeological heritage. During councillor Cristina Manetti’s visit, reported by Toscana Notizie, University of Florence research was presented on a large Etruscan-Italic house estimated at around 600 square metres. Investigations are examining phases preceding the building’s monumental layout. The Region identifies wider public access among its objectives, alongside conservation and university training. Local authorities, the heritage authority and the excavation’s scientific directors took part in the discussion.
