Former Ilva site: work begins on an opening in the perimeter wall
The passage is intended to connect the centre, Parco Centrale and a new parking area.
Follonica council began work to create an opening in the former Ilva site’s historic perimeter wall. The project is intended to provide a walking and cycling link between the centre, Parco Centrale and the new parking area, continuing as far as the monumental gate. The administration links the work to the regeneration programme supported by Tuscany’s ERDF resources, which also covers the Torre dell’Orologio, Officina Cilindri and Case dei Lavoranti. Mayor Matteo Buoncristiani stresses the move from planning to construction; councillor Giorgio Poggetti pledges attention to quality and timing. This report records the start of work in June 2026, rather than completion of the former industrial complex’s entire redevelopment.
