Poggibonsi announces opening of reconstructed medieval village
Poggio Imperiale features a full-scale reconstruction of a ninth- to tenth-century village.
Poggibonsi has announced the opening of its new Archeodromo on 24 October, an open-air archaeological museum devoted to life in the early Middle Ages. It reconstructs a ninth- to tenth-century village at full scale, drawing on University of Siena excavations on Poggio Imperiale hill. The project combines research, experimental archaeology and public education, with demonstrations of daily life and historical crafts. With opening events scheduled for 24 and 25 October, the challenge is to establish the site as a year-round place for visits and learning.
